Frequently Asked Questions

Please message me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Therapy provides additional support for life's challenges.  It could be depression, anxiety, grief or loss, you may have difficulties with relationships, work-related stress, feelings of overwhelm, anger and frustration, trauma related to abuse, domestic violence, bullying or any of life's hurdles that we are faced with.  Therapy offers a safe space to explore thoughts, feelings, and ideas.  There's no judgement here.

Therapy often involves the disclosure of sensitive and personal information, so confidentiality is paramount.  In order to protect your right to privacy the things you disclose to me will remain confidential.

There are three instances in which I can break confidentiality however, but I will always endeavour to speak to you first:

1)  Where you, the client gives consent and allows me to share information.  I have a separate form for this.

2)  Where I am compelled by a court of law.

3)  Where the information is of such gravity that confidentiality cannot be maintained.  This includes instances where I consider you or someone else to be in imminent danger from harm by you; in the event of divulging the intention of committing a crime, or act of terrorism.

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, to find out if we're a good fit and whether we feel we can work together.  We talk about what brought you to therapy, about what's going on if your life,  your current mental and physical health, and what support you already have.  First appointments are not a commitment to attend therapy.  It has to work for both of us and for this reason, these sessions often run longer than an hour.  There is no extra charge for this.

That's a tricky question to answer because we don't really know until we start to peel back the layers.  Some clients have only a handful of sessions, others want and need more, and there are many factors at play.  Ultimately you are in control of how long you attend sessions for.

I have a purpose built "workshop" at the rear of my home in Dallas.  It is insulated and sound-proofed and access is down the side lane to the right of my cottage.  For first appointments I'll always meet you out front first.

If you need to reschedule an appointment or confirm details, you are welcome to send a text, however to ensure that I can provide the best support, therapy needs to take place within our scheduled sessions for the following reasons:

  1. Depth & Effectiveness – Therapy involves meaningful conversations, body language, and emotional cues that are essential for progress. These elements are lost in text-based communication.
  2. Confidentiality & Security – Text messages are not a secure or private platform for discussing sensitive issues. To protect your confidentiality, therapy is conducted in a secure, appropriate setting.
  3. Therapeutic Boundaries – Consistent, scheduled sessions allow us to explore your concerns thoroughly. Unstructured text communication does not provide the same level of professional support.
  4. Emotional Safety – Complex or distressing topics require real-time interaction, where I can provide immediate guidance and support. Texting may not allow for the necessary depth of response.

Up tp 60 minutes:

£50 - £60

Concessions are available.  Please ask for more information.

Payment is by bank transfer and details will be provided.  I ask that payment is made in  24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Depending on your needs I offer up to  60 or 90 minute appointments.  Some clients feel that they need the extra half hour to process and talk about things.  Some clients find that an hour is enough.

I see clients on a weekly basis.  Building trust is a massive part of our relationship, and your therapeutic process.  Meeting weekly helps build trust and without trust our work together is not productive.

However long we work together I do regular check ins and reviews to ensure your needs are being met and that you're on track and happy with how things are going.

Many therapists in private practice have a cancellation policy.  Cancellations, particularly last minute ones have a big impact on my practice.  I often have a waiting list too, so missed sessions impact not only my business, but someone waiting for an appointment. I may see you for an hour but before your appointment I'm reading, researching,  preparing for you.

I ask that clients give me as much notice as possible if they need to cancel or reschedule a session.  Missed sessions and appointments cancelled within 48 hours however are charged at the full session rate and will be invoiced accordingly.

I am diagnosed ADHD.  I understand what living with a brain that's neuro-biologically different feels like.  I offer support, structure and psycho-education to support you in the many areas of your life  it can impact.  I've worked with neurodiversity for over 20 years and have supported adults, teens, and their families during that time.  I offer counselling and workshops to enable you to live your best life with a brain that seems determined to hijack daily life.  Let me know in the contact form if you're looking for ADHD specific support and we can work out a plan together.

Seeing a neurodivergent therapist can offer several unique benefits, especially for neurodivergent clients. These benefits include:

1. Enhanced Empathy and Understanding: A neurodivergent therapist may have personal experience with neurodivergence, allowing them to better understand and empathise with their clients' experiences and challenges.

2. Improved Communication: Shared neurodivergence can lead to more effective communication, as the therapist may naturally understand the client's communication style and needs.

3. Validation and Acceptance: Clients may feel more validated and accepted by a therapist who shares similar experiences and perspectives, which can create a safer and more supportive therapeutic environment.

4. Tailored Approaches: A neurodivergent therapist is likely to be familiar with diverse therapeutic approaches that accommodate neurodivergent thinking and learning styles, leading to more personalised and effective interventions.

5. Reduced Stigma: Working with a therapist who is also neurodivergent can help reduce feelings of stigma and isolation, as clients may feel that their experiences are better recognised and normalised.

6. Role Modelling: Seeing a neurodivergent therapist can provide clients with a positive role model, demonstrating that it is possible to thrive and succeed as a neurodivergent individual.

Overall, a neurodivergent therapist can create a therapeutic alliance based on mutual understanding, respect, and tailored support, which can significantly enhance the effectiveness of therapy for neurodivergent clients.
