Hello there!
I'm Angela and I’m a counsellor and psychotherapist with a special interest in ADHD.
I was born and brought up on the Moray coast and have lived here almost my whole life. I absolutely love my work, but when I’m not supporting humans you’ll maybe find me in the garden, or curled up with a coffee reading, or knitting/crocheting, or out on the hills with my dogs. I seldom stay still for long.
Not gonna lie, I was a little late to the party with my own spiky neurotype. Given that I've worked with families and children/teens with ADHD, apparently I didn't recognise it in myself until a family member made a comment, and a lecture at university came back to haunt me. I fully understand the challenges of having a brain that's different. The rollercoaster of emotions and the constant feeling of not fitting in are realities I understand all too well. Looking back over my life I experience lightbulb moments and can now clearly see what was going on for me. I can't change the past. Realising that everything you thought you knew about yourself has been turned on its head takes a minute to fully digest; that grieving process is full of weird feelings and can take a bit of navigating. I've been through it; still going through it. It's tough, and learning to be kind to myself really helped.
Today, I'm an advocate for neurodiversity and have a passion for supporting and enabling people with ADHD/AuDHD to realise their potential. I also work closely with families whose children come under the neurodivergent umbrella.
I have a Social Sciences degree, a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy and have trained and studied multiple and varied courses over the years to educate myself and develop my skills. I love learning and find myself returning to the books year after year – a perennial student some might say. Research informs how I practise and enables me to stay abreast of recent developments in my field. I attend regular supervision with a more experienced therapist who ensures that I am always working at my best for the needs of my clients. I also attend regular CPD training, including Mental Health First Aid, ADHD Awareness/Psycho-Education, Bereavement & Loss. I have worked as a volunteer counsellor with Quarriers Carer Support since 2018.
I'm a registered Practitioner Member of COSCA, Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland, which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, and I am fully insured.
