I have suffered with Fibromyalgia for over twenty years, and was diagnosed seven years ago. Before then I struggled to understand what was happening to my body; the pain and fatigue were overwhelming and I couldn't get anyone to see and understand the distress and anxiety I was experiencing. The isolation that this caused affected me in many ways.
My focus is to help you find understanding, clarity, and become aware of your inner strengths. I achieve this by providing a safe space, listening to your concerns in an empathic and understanding way. Often when we get caught up in the mire of our condition we sometimes forget our hopes and dreams, and particularly who we used to be. Clarity can bring our focus back to ourselves.
I promise to be there for you every step of your journey. My aim is to listen to your daily struggles, to enable you to heal from your pain and move forward to where you can feel comfortable with your condition.
My first hand experience of a chronic illness enables me to offer you understanding and empathy. I work in a Person-Centred way to allow you the time and space to explore the feelings surrounding your condition. Because of the debilitating nature of any chronic condition, I will travel to you for sessions meaning you don't have to leave the house when you're in pain or feeling tired. I know how hard it can be just to get dressed in the morning. Travelling is sometimes impossible, so if you're in the Moray area, I will come to you.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with the isolation of Fibromyalgia or any other chronic condition. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can start to take hold of our world. When we are diagnosed with a chronic condition, we often lose sight of who we used to be. Our mind makes promises our body can no longer keep. I can help you explore these feelings and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
It's really hard when you're the only family member with a chronic condition. Helping your loved ones understand your pain and fatigue is a mountain to climb in itself. Sometimes just chatting with someone who has literally walked in your shoes can help you gain a different perspective, and find the words to express how you feel. Having someone listen, without judgement, can often give us the courage to start a conversation with our loved ones.
Whether you're newly diagnosed or have been living with a chronic condition for many years, get in touch to start your journey to a deeper understanding and healing.
Whilst my primary focus is to help with chronic conditions, I also provide supportive counselling for many life challenges, including but not limited to, bipolar disorder, depression, grief and loss counselling, stress management, anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, personality disorders, post-natal depression.
If you live in the Moray area I can provide counselling at your home, or alternatively, via video calling using either Skype or Zoom. If you would prefer to meet elsewhere this can also be arranged.
